WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Some 125 pilot whales died in New Zealand after stranding on the beach over the weekend — but vacationers and conservation workers Sunday managed to coax 43 others back out to sea.

Rescuers monitored the survivors as they swam away from Colville Beach on North Island's Coromandel peninsula, and by Monday morning they were reported well out to sea.

Department of Conservation workers and hundreds of volunteers helped re-float the 43 whales at high tide. The volunteers covered the stranded mammals in sheets and kept them wet through the day.

Pilot Whales are amasing creaters, I was lucky enough to b able to touch them when i was working in Costa Rica.
We were taking a bunch of tourists out to the Island, and about 15 of them came along side the boat playing about, omg, so so amasing,...
i ofcours got all excited, and because its to dangerous to play swim wth them, yes, i wonted to jump in between them, but soon realised that wasnt a good id, lol... But anyways, yes, i got so excited i went flat down on me belly on the boat, put my hand in the water, and omgggg, they just swam under it!!!! And my palm just slid over them!!!! oooo to me it was sooo amasing!!!!!
